Find the hostname behind an IP address.
Reverse DNS finds the name that belongs to an IP address (the PTR record). The tool queries it at multiple public resolvers and checks whether the name found points back to the same IP address.
Result
When is reverse DNS correct?
- Confirmed
- A PTR is confirmed when its hostname resolves back to the entered IP address through A or AAAA.
- Not confirmed
- An unconfirmed PTR points to another address or nowhere. This page does not check the SMTP hostname.
- What this does not show
- A matching PTR proves nothing about reputation or delivery. Your provider usually manages the record.
